  • Personal data and former education: Saša Marković, PhD, was born on the 20th October 1966 in Prokuplje. He is married and has two daughters. The candidate's permanent place of residence is in Žitorađa, 2/1 Vojvode Mišića Street.
    He completed primary school in Žitorađa. After completing the physiotherapist course at Secondary School of Medicine in Nis, he entered the Faculty of Physical Education in Prishtinain the academic year of 1985/86. During the studies, he showed a great success and in 1991 graduated with the average grade - 8,01. Upon the completion of graduate studies, he enrolled on postgraduate studies in Prishtina, at the Faculty of Physical Education, which he finished with the average grade- 9.85.
    He successfully defended his Master thesis entitled "RELATIONS BETWEEN MORPHOLOGICAL DIMENSIONS AND SOME SITUATIONAL-MOTOR ABILITIES IN HANDBALL AMONG THE STUDENTS OF FACULTY OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION" in June, 1996 at the Faculty of Physical Education in Prishtina.
    On the 17th July 2000, he successfully defended his doctoral dissertation entitled "DIMENSIONS OF HANDBALL PLAYERS IN MOTOR, SITUATIONAL-MOTOR AND PSYCHOLOGICAL SPACE" at the Faculty of PhysicalEducation in Novi Sad.
  • Professional data: In October 1991, Saša Marković, PhD,gained his first job as a Physical Education teacher in the primary school "Toplički heroji" in Žitorađa.

    On the 1stFebruary 1992, he was elected teaching assistant trainee in Handball course at Faculty of Physical Education in Prishtina.

    Havingcompleted the master studies and successfully defended the master thesis, he was appointed assistant to the same course at the Faculty of Physical Education in Prishtina. Havingtaken his doctoral degree, he was elected to the position of a docent in Rugby also at the Faculty of Physical Education in Prishtina (decision No. 226 of the 8th November, 2001 - Leposavic).

    From the 15th February 2002 he has been working at the Faculty of Physical Education in Nis, first as a docent in Handball course and later as an associate professor and full professor in the same course.

    Sasa's first handball steps were taken in hisearly childhood with the help of his father, a former member of a Yugoslav national handball team and the winner of SSSMay Award. Sasa wasspotted as one of the best handball players in primary and secondary school selection teams. Even as a secondary school student he became a member of the first team H.C. Celik from Žitorađa, a member of the First Serbian league; then H.C. Topličanin from Prokuplje, a member of the Second Federal League. During his studies in Prishtina, he became a member of H.C. Obilic from Pristina, a member of the Second Federal League of the former Yugoslavia.

    After the graduation studies, he founded a handball club in Žitorađa, as a player and a coach of which, he managed to bring the club to the federal rank of competition. The handball school within the same club has been working successfully under his mentorship programme.

    He was also an associate in the handball club "Bozur" from Gjilane which used to compete in the first handball league.

    As a head coach of the H.C. Planinka from Kursumlija, which under his leadership reached the federal rank of competition and SCG Super League and twice in a row won the Cup of Handball Federation of Serbia as well as the second place in the Youth Championship HFS, heworked for 10 years.He was also a head coach of men's handball teams in Blace and Bela Palanka.

    He was the chairman of the Selection Committee of senior men's handball national team of RSSCG, in 2006.
    He was a one term advisor to the selector of men's senior handball national team of Serbia.
    Since 2005,he has been the selector of the male and female University handball team of Serbia, which has achieved outstanding results at the European and World University Championships: The second place of women's national team at the third European University Championship in Nis in 2008; the third placeof men's national team at the twentieth world University handball Championship held in Nidjerhaza in Hungary, 2010; thesecond place of the male University national team of Serbia at 28 Summer Universiade in Kwangju in South Korea in July, 2015
    Saša Marković, Ph D, has been the chairman of handball union of coaches of Serbian Handball Federationfor three terms. He has also been the three-term member of the Administrative Board of HFS. He is also responsible for the professional work in the Union of handball camps working with young handball players of the Handball Federation of Serbia. He initiated the education of the coaching staff in HFS. He is the founder and head of the expert team of Handball Camp 'Toplica", which during a ten-year periodhas educated nearly 3000 young male and female handball players.
    As for the sport at the University, he actively took part in getting the students of University of Prishtina organizedfor the 9th Universiade held in Nis, which resulted inthis team's achievement of significant results. He was also a representative of the University of Prishtina inUniversity Sports Federation of Yugoslavia.

    For his work in the field of handball sport he has won several awards such as: Winner of The best coach plaque- ACA PAVLOVIĆ, in 2004;HFS Plaque for the contribution to the development of handball sport in RS in 2005; Professor Marković teaches Handball and Mini – Handball at the OAS, Faculty of Sport and Physical Education in Niš.He was a visiting lecturer at NSA "Vasil Levski" in Sofia and at the University of Belgorod, Russia.
    During his professional career, Saša Marković, PhD, has participated in the preparation and defense of diploma papers at Faculty of Sport and Physical Education in Nis (as a mentor 81 time, and as a member of the examining board 100 times).
    More than 200 students at Coaching school of HFS defended the final paper under the mentorship of Sasa Markovic, PhD.
    He was a mentor, chairman or member of the board for the preparation of several master theses and doctoral dissertations at Universities in Serbia and abroad.
    Professor Markovic has published dozens of papers in the field of handball in professional magazines in Serbia and abroad. Professor Markovic has published the following books and textbooks:
